Home Taco-Seasoning
The secret behind tasty meals lies in seasoning. The best homemade taco seasoning is just that; homemade. You will only need a few basic ingredients that are probably already in your pantry:
- Chili Powder
- Cumin
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Paprika – we use smoked, but regular is fine.
- Red chili flakes Red chili flakes
- Oregano
- Salt
- Pepper
Once everything has been measured according to the recipe card, mix it and get ready for some delicious tacos.
How to Prepare Ground Beef Taco Filling
1. Heat the Skillet: Medium high heat your skillet first then add one tablespoon oil onto it.
2. Cook the Beef: Add ground beef and use wooden spoon or spatula as you break it into small pieces; let it cook without stirring for 3-4 minutes then stir it occasionally Keep on cooking, stirring every now and then till the beef is completely browned.
3. Add taco seasoning, tomato sauce, and a splash of water to the mixture. Stir well to mix everything, then let it cook for some few minutes. Once ready, you can start making tacos!
What Kind of Tortillas to Use
Choose wisely! We opted for flour tortillas today though we often love having these tacos with corn ones as well. They both turn out great.
We prefer to give our tortillas a little sear before serving them so they get a bit crispy. Just preheat your non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. When it gets hot, put the tortillas on each side for about 10 seconds until you see some brown spots.
You could also use hard taco shells; Jason considers them to be the true essence of tacos since he grew up eating them. One night, he announced that he was making tacos for dinner and when I asked him what kind; he simply said “taco tacos.” I immediately knew what he meant.
Some Topping Ideas

- Diced Tomato
- Shredded Lettuce
- Diced Avocado

- Sour Cream
Recipe FAQs
How to Serve Ground Beef Tacos
I like having all my toppings on the table so everyone can make their own ideal tacos. Then just fill each tortilla with a generous amount of the meat mixture and add your favorite toppings.
For those who want a little spicy, you can pour some hot sauce on top. We keep different types of this addition so that every taco has a slightly different taste.
These tacos can make an entire meal. We usually serve them with refried beans as a side dish.
Storing and Using Leftovers
Store any leftover taco meat in the refrigerator in an air-tight container for three to four days. Add about one tablespoonful of water when heating it again.
The leftovers are also useful for other purposes. This filling is perfect for nachos, lettuce wraps, taco bowls or salad. I have even used it to prepare omelette tacos!
So there you have it my friends! One exciting, quick weeknight dinner. Watch as everyone in the house devours these tacos one by one. We bet you will be trying this out more than once.
